Get Organized in the New Year!

Re-adjusting to the ebbs and flows of your weekly routine after the holiday season can be a challenge for many people. January is known as “Get Organized Month”, or “GO” month, and represents a great opportunity to “get your ducks in a row” as they say. This campaign promotes the advantages of having an organized lifestyle.

This is not an easy task. Having an organized life requires a good bit of planning, time management, and foresight into your life. However, if you succeed, there are many benefits like increased productivity and more free time for yourself.

“GO” first began in 1991, established by The National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals (NAPO). This group of organization consultants exists to help individuals, families, and businesses organize their lives in order to achieve their goals. NAPO first began from a small living room in Los Angeles in 1983, when a group of women who offered organizing services decided to work together. “GO” became an annual event starting at their 1991 conference. In 2005, January became known as “Get Organized Month”, which launched a national public awareness campaign.

Here are a few reasons why “GO” can improve your life!

  • It will save you time.
    • It may seem like getting organized will take more time, but it will help you in the long run. Having a set plan will actually end up saving you time!
  • It can save you money.
    • Once you have an organized plan for budgeting and paying bills, you can save money avoiding late fees and making smarter purchases.
  • It can reduce stress, and give you more free time.
    • Knowing what needs to be done, and when, will allow you to focus on your hobbies and relaxing, which can greatly help reduce stress.

There are many ways to help yourself organize your life, and not every solution will work for everyone. Consider the below tips to get started:

  • Cut out the clutter.
    • Having a clean area or living space will allow you to focus on accomplishing your tasks.
  • Create a schedule for your work and personal life.
    • This allows you to set aside time for specific tasks, like a work assignment or a fun activity.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk to an organization professional!
    • It can be daunting organizing all the various aspects of your life or business for the first time. There are professionals who are there to help!
