First Bank and the Stanley Cup

First Bank recently had the opportunity to be a part of Princeton University’s Hobey 100 Weekend! This weekend was part of a celebration commemorating the 100th year of Princeton University’s Hobey Baker Rink.

Opening in 1923, the rink is named in memory of Hobart “Hobey” Baker, member of Princeton’s Class of 1914. A star football and ice hockey player at Princeton, Hobey passed away in a plane crash shortly after World War 1 in 1918.

Princeton created a special fan village outside of the rink during their Hobey 100 weekend, for fans to enjoy in between multiple Men’s and Women’s ice hockey games each day. The fan village housed none other than the NHL’s Lord Stanley’s Cup, as well as the Hobey Baker Award and the Patty Kazmaier Award. Fans were able to take photos with the trophies and enjoy the atmosphere around other ice hockey fans.

“We are thankful to the National Hockey League and Hockey Hall of Fame for helping to add to this special weekend by bringing the Stanley Cup to Baker Rink in January,” said men’s head coach Ron Fogarty. “All year, we have been sharing in the legacy and history of Baker Rink, and there is no better symbol that showcases history and legacy in our sport than the Stanley Cup. We are excited to have the Cup on hand alongside college hockey’s most-prized trophies for our fans to interact with and make their own memories during Hobey 100 Weekend.” Click here to read more from Princeton University.

First Bank hosted a private tailgate within the fan village for team members and their guests, enjoying food and beverages while taking their turn getting a picture with the Stanley Cup. Attendees then headed inside for Men’s Ice Hockey versus Dartmouth, resulting in an exciting Tiger’s Victory!

First Bank is proud to partner with Princeton Athletics to bring these experiences to our community. Go Tigers! For information on our banking services, visit: https://www.myfirstbank.com/
